As we approach the end of the year, we find ourselves in the middle of a season where thank yous are commonly given and exchanged. We thank coworkers in the office for their efforts and contributions. We thank members of our charity organization for their dedication. We thank individuals at our schools for all they do for our kids.
With so many thank yous flying around, make sure your expressions of appreciation hit the mark. Read our four tips to make certain your thank yous are meaningful and memorable during this season of thank you.
Deliver timely thanks when you have recognition tools nearby.
1.Give Timely Thanks.
Deliver your thanks as quickly after the event or behavior as possible. By responding in a timely manner, you will appear more appreciative and sincere. Be prepared for thank you moments by always having tools, like a Thank You Cheers Kit
, nearby and ready.
2. Be Sincere. Your expression of appreciation must be sincere for it to be meaningful to the recipient. If you’re saying thank you face-to-face, avoid sarcasm and humor and look the individual in the eye. Give your full attention to the recipient, and your message of thanks will be well received!
3. Mention the Specific Gift or Action.
When thanking someone for a gift of their time, talent, or resources, be specific. Let your employee know you appreciate their positive attitude or dedication to timeliness. When writing a thank you note or ePraise card
, use specific language about what you’re saying thank you for.
4. Make it Tangible.
Your thanks will be more memorable if it’s accompanied by something tangible. Write a handwritten thank you note or give a small gift like a Fun Treat Gift Bag
. The tangible item will serve as a reminder to the recipient and makes you look more thoughtful.

Three warm smiles,
And a piece of my favorite candy!"
