Look up service in the dictionary and it's defined as: "assistance or advice given to customers during and after the sale of goods." Customers can come in a wide range of types – hotel guests, retail shoppers, paying subscribers, patients, parents, clients, even our employees can be thought of as a certain type of customer. And to be quite honest, if you're employees are happy, you will find that your customers will be happy, too. The saying may go, "Happy Wife, Happy Life," but I like to think of it as "Happy Staff Raises the Graph."
Try using Customer Service Week, October 7-11, 2013
, as a time to celebrate your ENTIRE team – after all, without sales and marketing, how would the customers hear about your business? Without accounting, how would your business stay afloat? Without operations, would you have a facility to come to every day? While our customer service staff may serve our customers, we serve each other, and everyone wins!
Seem like a lot? Let's unpack it together...
1. Choose a Theme. Service Superheroes
was our customer service week theme last year and it was a hit! When you have a recognition event theme
, planning each day's event gets a little easier.
2. Switch it up.
Plan daily events/activities that appeal to different types of people. One day do something that people can complete at their desk, the next day get them up and moving, plan something that requires creativity, and then something that may be a little more analytical. Participation is key – even if it's just in one activity. Here are some ideas: Office Scavenger Hunt, Workplace Trivia, Office Supplies Tower Building Contest, Obstacle Course, or Charades.
3. Assign Teams.
At the beginning of the week, assign your teams by including cross-department interaction. Keep the teams for the entire week and foster relationships and connections while you're having fun together.
4. Win them Over With Their Bellies.
At the end of the week, celebrate with a catered lunch or team-wide potluck. The team that eats together, mesquites together… that doesn't make sense. But perhaps mesquiting is an amazing team building activity that no one knows about...
Celebrate your team this Customer Service Week
and reap the rewards of a little simple appreciation and fun. Good luck and have fun!
